Dr. Mackner is a graduate of Pelican Rapids High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He attended Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon where he earned his doctorate. Dr. Mackner provided vision care to the people of Saint Luis, Senegal on a volunteer optometric services to humanity trip as well as several volunteer events in Oregon during his time at Pacific University. He received additional training throughout his rotations which focused on specialty contact lenses, primary care optometry, the treatment and management of ocular disease, and surgical co-management.
Dr. Mackner is a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He received specialty training in the management of myopia and is certified to fit specialty contact lenses that can slow the rate of nearsightedness in children. Dr. Mackner has a particular interest in the treatment and management of dry eye in its many manifestations. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, fishing, cooking, spending time with friends and family as well as enduring the Timberwolves and Vikings. Dr. Mackner is happily married to his wife Amanda. They reside in Detroit Lakes with their sheepdog, Ollie.
